The Derkach Project
This complete main floor renovation was designed to breathe new life into a home that once felt dated, closed off, and short on space - transforming it into a warm, functional place made for everyday living.
By removing multiple walls, we were able to connect the living room, kitchen, and dining room into a bright, open-concept layout that flows effortlessly from one space to the next. New flooring and fresh paint throughout the main floor set a clean, welcoming foundation, while a newly tiled front entrance creates a beautiful first impression. Wainscoting and thoughtfully placed coat hooks add both character and function, making coming and going feel organized and inviting.
The kitchen was reimagined to be both practical and beautiful. A two-toned white oak island anchors the space, complemented by a matching glass corner cabinet that adds warmth and visual interest. Quartz countertops extend up the wall as a seamless backsplash, bringing a refined, cohesive look that elevates the entire room. Just steps away, the dining area now features a built-in seating nook—perfect for slow mornings, shared meals, and lingering conversations.
To improve daily flow, the laundry room was relocated to the basement, allowing space on the main floor for a dedicated pantry and coffee bar—small details that make a big difference in everyday routines.
Throughout the home, wall trim adds depth and timeless character, tying each space together. The main bathroom was refreshed with classic checkered tile floors and elegant gold accents, while the son’s bedroom features custom wainscoting and a bold black paint color that feels both playful and polished.
In the living room, an updated stone fireplace with a custom white oak mantel becomes a cozy focal point, echoing the warm wood tones found in the kitchen and creating a sense of continuity throughout the home.
The result is a thoughtfully renovated main floor that feels open, comfortable, and full of life - a place where you can truly picture yourself settling in, gathering with loved ones, and enjoying the beauty of a home designed to grow with you.
